About Me
Bio
Pearson Moore is an artist living in Dallas, Texas working in charcoal, graphite, and oil pastels. She is a dedicated introvert with a passion for pretending to be the opposite. On her mission for human connection, she finds it best when face to face with the subjects of her portrait work. Each one is completely new, posing fresh questions about unknown stories that she hopes to convey with just the right look in the eye or turn of the mouth.
Pearson studied Art History at the University of Mississippi and received her M.A. and M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University in Arts Management, Strategy, and Entrepreneurship. When she is not making friends with her work, Pearson loves visiting family, easy reads, great music, awesome food, and long walks on the beach.
Artist Statement
The goal of my work is to make us want to learn more about the subject. While an image stands for one second in time, portraying the right moment can spark a powerful connection with the audience. I like a subject caught in a glance, thought, conversation, or private moment with themself or with the viewer. It leaves us wondering more about who they are, where they've been, and what they might think of us.
While I am inspired by photography’s documentation of beautiful, mundane, unusual, and cherished moments, my work uses texture, material, and color (or lack thereof) to tell a bigger story about the subject. I’d like to think my process of using my hands to shape the medium as much as possible is what gives each piece personality and a voice of its own. Black and white compositions spur imagination while color can be used to convey so much more than what meets the eye from a conventional image. Both directions are full of exciting possibilities.
I hope that each piece encourages interpretation and storytelling... whether it is personal, historical, fictional, or somewhere in between is completely up to you.
